Residential Living for students at Voorhees College is an
experience that is supportive of learning in the classroom.
Students gain self-development by group living,
participating in residential government, assisting in
formulating and presenting residential educational and
recreational programs and independent living. There are five
(5) residence halls; two for men, two for women, and one
that is co-educational by apartments. In each hall,
residential life staff are responsible for working with
students in developing and presenting educational,
recreational, social and cultural programs; supervising
facilities, and advising/counseling residents. The Residence
Coordinator is assisted by an Assistant Residence
Coordinator and a staff of Resident Assistants (RA).
Resident Assistants (RAs) are students who serve as
residence hall advisory staff members. These students, under
the supervision of the hall director, are responsible for
advising and peer counseling of the residents of a
designated floor of the residence hall. In addition to these
responsibilities, the RA:1. Assists in the maintenance of
good study conditions.2. Assists in the interpretation of
the College’s rules and regulations.3. Works with the
director in planning residence hall programs and
activities.4. Assists in the implementation of the residence
hall visitations and calling policies.5. Serves as referral
agent to the campus resources and services.6. May act as
building supervisor in the absence of the Residence
Coordinator.
