Track & Field

Last year was a successful one for the Tigers on the track, with members of the women's and men's teams representing Voorhees in national competition.
For the women, Shekkia Collins and Brionca Walker qualified for the NAIA national meet, and they'll be back this year. The 4x100 relay team qualified for nationals as well.

Among the men, Jeffery Pendergrass qualified for nationals at 200 meters, where he was ranked in the top five in the country. Teammate Quintin Bell qualified for nationals in the same event and was ranked second in the nation.

The women's indoor team saw similar success, with Walker and the relay team, along with discus/shot putter Kayla Brown, qualifying for nationals. Among the men Bell qualified at 100 meters, and Jasper Fell qualified in the 110 meter hurdles. The men's 400 relay team qualified as well.

Bell, an All American, along with women's sprinter Shantrell Jenkins, helped lead the Voorhees teams to their first national rankings in five years by the time the NAIA championships were over.

That adds up to a promising outlook for the teams, led by Coach Garon Jackson, during the 2010 season. With the exception of Jenkins, the nucleus of both teams is returning this season.
