The goals of the Biology Major are:

To equip the graduate with the appropriate knowledge, skills and
background to pursue graduate studies in Biology or in professional
schools for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, allied health or
other related areas.

To equip the graduate with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and
background to pursue a meaningful career in teaching, research, industry,
medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, allied health and other related
areas.
Objectives - After completing the degree in Biology,
the graduate will be able to:

Utilize the methods of science in solving problems.

Demonstrate appropriate skills in the use of laboratory
equipment and in the reading of scientific literature.

Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental biological concepts,
relationships, and processes in order to complete graduate studies in the
life sciences.

Demonstrate the use of basic vocabulary and facts in cellular,
molecular, an organism al biology in order to enable them to study
medicine, dentistry, allied health, conduct research or teach life
sciences.
A major in Biology consists of at least:
- Forty-one (41)
semester hours of course work in Biology in addition to four (4) semester
hours of Biology electives;
- Twenty (20) semester hours of course work in
Chemistry;
- Eight (8) semester hours of Physics;
- Three (3) semester hours
of Computer Science; and
- Nine (9)hours of Mathematics.
A graduate is also
required to complete fifty (50) hours of General Education requirements
and three (3) semester hours of electives outside the division. A Biology
major needs a total of the 129 hours to graduate.
