Inc. (GEL) primary focus has always been and will continue
to be partnership and service. As we partner with
universities, it is our idea of partnership that drives us
to a unique and successful offering for each university we
serve. We recognize the importance of partnership and have
developed a model that supports this effort.
GEL’s model includes book scholarships, assistance in fund raising activities, donations to the University/ Foundation and a revenue sharing. All of the above but especially our commitment to share gross profit with the universities we serve indicate of our dedication to partnership and the importance of each college to our company.
When given the opportunity to serve universities and its students, GEL has always excelled in its level of customer service. While we acknowledge that service to faculty and students can have many definitions, mastering the complexities of service has been the hallmark of our company. We service our clients with a constant and prevailing positive attitude towards satisfaction of need.
From customizing merchandise to reducing long lines at high volume periods, GEL responds with a local and corporate can-do attitude. In 1998, GEL opened its first college bookstore in Detroit, Michigan. This off-campus, bookstore provided students with a less expensive alternative to purchase college textbooks. At that time, the focus of our company was to sell only textbooks at a reduced cost.
This concept proved to be a success and students were able to recognize as much as 20 percent savings. In 2001, GEL expanded and opened its first-on campus, full service bookstore. GEL now provides a full line of clothing, gift items, school supplies, health and beauty aids and snacks as well as continuing to provide college textbooks at a reasonable price.
