Career Planning and Placement - Home

Mission

The Career Planning and Placement Center exists to support and enhance the Mission of Voorhees College and The Division of Student Affairs. The office serves as a liaison with past and present students as its primary focus.

The Office of Career Planning and Student Counseling provides a wide variety of services and programs to promote personal growth and development, and to help students handle day-to-day concerns for traditional and non-traditional learners. Counselors offer assistance that is strictly confidential and in accordance with the ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the American Association of Counseling and Development. Students may request counseling for themselves or be referred by a friend, faculty, or staff member. Service is provided by appointment, and on a "walk-in" basis.

Counseling is available on an individual basis and through group sessions for academic, educational, career, personal, social, and religious concerns. Students are encouraged to arrive at their own decisions and to take responsibility for making adjustments to resolve concerns.

In the area of Career Planning, Voorhees students may take advantage of services that assist them with educational planning, career exploration, career planning, and job-search strategies. Furthermore, employment assistance is available either during matriculation, or after graduation. Thus, all students are encouraged to come in at the beginning of their college experience for assistance in self assessment and goal setting. Career Planning activities are provided in both individual and group counseling sessions.

As a service to students engaged in the job search process, the College arranges for prospective employers to conduct job interviews for career positions on and off campus. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the variety of services that help prepare them for job interviews and other aspects of the job quest. Services include workshops in self-assessment, career exploration and planning, resume writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, and networking. Career fairs are also provided for students to meet various employers in informal settings.

The Career Planning and Counseling Office strives to provide a comfortable environment for the traditional and non-traditional learners that enhances the student's intellectual development, career skills, and self-confidence, consistent with age and life circumstances. This staff firmly believes that all students who have made well-informed career decisions will obtain greater benefits from their academic programs, and are more likely to persist in completing their educational experiences. Likewise, the College is certain that well-prepared graduates will have greater choices of future employment opportunities.
