Scholarships are available from a number of industries, corporations, professional organizations, civic clubs and individuals. Recipients are selected by the college's scholarship committee. Recipients must earn a certain average and exemplify good moral character to maintain these scholarships.

ABNEY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 

  • South Carolina resident preferred

  • Economically disadvantaged

  • Must be in good academic standing at the college

  • Must be a sophomore or junior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher

ACADEMIC GRANT-IN-AID

  • Based on academic performance and financial need

  • Cumulative grade point average must be 3.0 or higher

  • Student must be a new freshman with a SAT score of 800-899

ASSOCIATION OF EPISCOPAL COLLEGES CHARITABLE SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new freshmen or a currently enrolled student willing to perform volunteer charitable services

  • Applicant must be demonstrate good moral character and financial need

  • Cumulative grade point average must be 3.0 or higher

ATHLETIC GRANT-IN-AID

  • Student must be an athlete demonstrating exceptional leadership and talent in sports

  • Recipient of this award is chosen by the athletics department coaches

D. L. SCURRY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new freshman demonstrating academic merit and financial need

  • Cumulative grade point average must be 3.5 or higher

  • SAT score must be at least 1000 (will accept 950 if ranked in upper 10% of class with recommendation from counselor or principal)

DEAN'S SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new freshmen demonstrating academic merit and financial need

  • High school grade point average must be 3.0 or higher

  • SAT score must be at least 900 / ACT score of  at least 19

  • Scholarship covers up to the cost of tuition and is renewable for four years

  • Recipients must complete the FAFSA and apply for all other state and federal aid for which he or she may be eligible

  • This scholarship will cover the remaining cost of attendance which may not be covered by all other financial aid received 

  • Books are not included

EPISCOPAL LEGACY FUND SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

  • Student must be a currently enrolled sophomore or junior demonstrating outstanding academic performance and outstanding leadership qualities

  • Applicants must complete an essay on the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Cumulative  grade point average must be 2.5 or higher

  • This scholarship is not need-based 

GEORGE I. ALDEN TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a currently enrolled sophomore or junior demonstrating outstanding academic performance

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 3.0

  • This scholarship is not need-based

GOLSON - DAWSON SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be currently enrolled exemplifying strong moral character, high work ethics and demonstrated financial need

  • Applicants must be model students with no disciplinary problems

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 2.5

HEARST FOUNDATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new non-resident of South Carolina freshman with high academic standing and demonstrated financial need

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 3.0

  • SAT score be at least 900 (will accept 800 if ranked in upper 10% of class with a recommendation from Counselor or Principal). 

JACKSON WIGGINS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new freshman who is a descendent of Jackson Wiggins

  • SAT score must be a 850 indicating academic potential and demonstrated financial need

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 2.85

JEROME GEATHERS (10)

  • Based on academic merit and financial need

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 2.5 or higher

  • Student must  be in good standing with the college

JERRY M. SCREEN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a pre-law student who intends to pursue careers in law

  • Students must be a rising sophomore or junior

  • Cumulate grade point average must be 3.3 or higher

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be a new freshman demonstrating outstanding academic performance and financial need   

  • High school grade point average must be 3.5 or higher

  • SAT score must be at least 1,000 / ACT score must be at least 21

  • Scholarship covers up to the cost of tuition, room and board and is renewable for four years

  • Cumulate grade point average must be a 2.75 the first year and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average each year thereafter

  • Recipients must complete the FAFSA and apply for all other state and federal aid

  • This scholarship will cover the remaining cost of attendance which may not be covered by all other financial aid receive

  • Books are not included

READERS DIGEST ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

  • Student must be currently enrolled at Voorhees demonstrating outstanding academic merit and financial need

  • Cumulate grade point average must be a 2.75 

UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Based on academic merit and financial need

  • The amounts of the scholarships vary and some are renewable

  • Grade point average must be  2.5 or higher for returning students and 3.0 or higher for new freshmen

  • Voorhees College do not select candidates for this scholarship

  • The United Negro College Fund general application must be made through the Web site www.uncf.org
