FREN 131. Elementary French I(3)
A course for beginners who have no previous
experience or little experience of learning the
target language. It offers students a dynamic,
exciting and pleasurable introduction to the
study of French through situations which may be
transferable to usual and everyday social
interaction. Special attention is given to
communication skills: conversational French and
punctuation. French grammar, especially verbs,
is introduced in context. Emphasis is placed on
cultural awareness and the Francophone world.
FREN 132. Elementary French II (3)
A continuation and extension of the work and
skills covered in French 131. Entering students
are expected to have been exposed to the French
language for at least one semester of study at
the college level or for at least one year at
the high school level. Students are expected to
build upon the structures they acquired in
French 131 in order to expand and use their
skills in more complex situations. Relevant
vocabulary acquisition is encouraged throughout
the course. The study of French civilization and
Francophone cultures is reinforced.
Prerequisite: FREN 131 or permission of the
instructor.
