Voorhees celebrates Homecoming 2009 with its new brand

Voorhees College will kick off its 2009 Homecoming week on Sunday, Nov. 8, with the theme "Changing Minds, Changing Lives."
The annual National Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. This year's honorees are Voorhees alumni Roosevelt Bryant '52, Gloria Donald '69, Dan Martin '77, and Dr. Leo Reginald Smith '73. Tickets for the event are $50 per person and $500 per table, which seats eight.
Many fun and entertaining events are planned throughout the week, including the first alumni Homecoming Comedy Show, which will be held Friday, Nov. 13 at 9 p.m. in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium. Doors will open at 8 p.m. The Homecoming parade, games and Greek Step Show on Saturday, Nov. 14, will conclude the week's activities.
"Homecoming 2009 marks the first Homecoming with our new brand, which is, "Changing Minds, Changing Lives," said President Sellers. "We hope that all alumni and supporters of Voorhees will begin to embrace this theme with a new era of engagement for our beloved alma mater."
The grand marshal for the Homecoming parade will be Dr. Gerald Wright, recently elected mayor of Denmark and a graduate of Voorhees High School. Wright obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Morehouse College. He then furthered his education at South Carolina State University receiving a master of education degree and a doctoral degree in educational administration.
