Shampale Williams to be crowned Miss Voorhees College

September 14, 2009

Shampale F. Williams, who recently released her first book, will be crowned Miss Voorhees College 2009-2010 on Friday, September 18 in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center at 7 p.m. The theme for the coronation is "Captured in a Dream: A Fairytale Come True." The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

Released in July 2009, Williams' first book, "Alphabet Love," is a collection of poetry she hopes will inspire others to appreciate the art of reading.

Williams, a native of Atlanta, Ga., is the 21-year-old daughter of Mrs. Shiwila W. Felton. She aspires to become a poet and to pursue a Master of Arts degree in creative writing after completing her undergraduate studies in mass communications at Voorhees in May 2010.

"It is such an honor to hold the title as Miss Voorhees College," said Williams. "Voorhees College has changed my whole outlook on life and helped me develop into an ambassador for Voorhees College."

Since her first steps on the campus of Voorhees, Williams has been extremely involved in various activities. Some of her organizational memberships include: Mass Communications Club; Pre-Alumni Council; Elizabeth Evelyn Wright Club; Student Government Association; and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Williams was also a member of the Lady Tigers Basketball Team during her freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

During her year of service as Miss Voorhees College, Williams will encourage students to become more actively involved in campus activities. She also plans to visit high schools across South Carolina promoting literacy with the platform "Realize Education and Dreams" (R.E.A.D.).
