Voorhees officially
welcomes the Class of
2012
Denmark, S.C. –
Approximately 200 white
candles were lit on
campus by the Class of
2012, faculty and staff
of the institution
during the annual
Candlelight and
Matriculation Service.

August 1st, 2008 - Voorhees kicks off its
2008-2009 academic year with a new theme
"We are Voorhees: A Community of Scholars" is the new
theme outlined in the college’s new strategic plan for
the next five years under the leadership of Voorhees’
eighth president Dr. Cleveland L. Sellers, Jr.

June 16th, 2008 - Voorhees College opens a new chapter
with its eighth president Dr. Cleveland L. Sellers Jr.
Civil-rights activist and
educator, Dr. Cleveland L.
Sellers Jr., was recently
appointed the eighth president
of Voorhees College, a private
historically black college
located in Denmark, S.C. Sellers
officially took office June 16.

April 22nd, 2008 - Dr. Cleveland Sellers officially
accepts position as president of Voorhees
Denmark, S.C. – The Voorhees College Board of Trustees
Chairman, Dr. Marshall B. Bass, officially named and
introduced today Dr. Cleveland Sellers as the eighth
president of Voorhees College.

Voorhees hosts its annual Founder’s Day program Voorhees College celebrated 111 years of
existence on Thursday, April 10, during Founder’s Day
Convocation. Donald E. Greene Jr., pastor of Andrew Chapel
Baptist Church in Orangeburg and a 1988 Voorhees graduate,
was the keynote speaker for the event.

Voorhees is awarded $3,000 for competing in the 2008 HCASC The Voorhees College family congratulates the 2008
members of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) team
for an outstanding performance in Orlando, Fla. Members of
the team are Yashkeika Robinson, Terrance Brown, June
Streets, Oluseye Olafimihan and Shaterra Smalls. The team is
coached by Dr. Marvin Wilson, vice president for student
affairs. Voorhees received $3,000 in grant money for
participating.

March 20, 2008 - Voorhees educates the community on cyber
security Voorhees College, in conjunction with the U.S.
Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security
Administration, will host its Third Annual Technology and
Cyber Security Week from April 1-3, 2008.

February 07, 2008 - Civil rights activist, Dr. Cleveland Sellers,
encouraged students to remember the unsung heroes Denmark, S.C. - Educator and civil rights movement veteran,
Cleveland Sellers, spoke at Voorhees College on Thursday, Feb. 7, to
kick off the annual Black History Month Celebration. Emotionally,
Sellers began by saying that this is one of the most difficult times
of the year for him because of the anniversary of the Orangeburg
Massacre, which took place on Feb. 8, 1968, on the campus of South
Carolina State University.
- January 28, 2008 - Voorhees joins the largest teach-in model
on global warming solutions in U.S. history Denmark, S.C.
On Jan. 30 and 31, 2008, Voorhees will participate in Focus
the Nation, an unprecedented teach-in model on global
warming solutions, with more than 1,800 institutions across
the nation. Focus the Nation has created a teach-in model
centered on the three most essential pillars for today’s
youth to embrace solutions to global warming: education,
civic engagement and leadership.

January 16, 2008 - Actor and political activist Danny Glover
campaigns for John Edwards at Voorhees Actor and political activist Danny Glover will be visiting
Voorhees College on Wednesday, Jan. 23, campaigning for Democratic
presidential hopeful John Edwards. The rally will take place in
Massachusetts Hall Auditorium at 2 p.m.

January 16, 2008 - Actress Tatyana Ali campaigns at Voorhees for
Senator Barack Obama On Thursday, Jan. 17, famed actress Tatyana Ali will be
campaigning for Barack Obama on the campus of Voorhees College. Ali
is best known for her role as Ashley from the television sitcom
“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

January 14, 2008 - New scholarship fund established at
Voorhees in memory of a former Order of the Palmetto
recipient Denmark, S.C.
A new scholarship fund in the amount of $15,000 has been
established at Voorhees to assist students majoring in
education. The Walker E. Solomon Scholarship is named in
memory of Dr. Walker Emanuel Solomon, a former recipient of
the Order of the Palmetto, the highest award given by the
governor honoring a citizen of South Carolina.

January 04, 2008 - Voorhees celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. with
Charleston talk show host. Charleston native, Tammy McCottry-Brown, host of the “Tammy”
show, a local talk show aired in Charleston, will be the keynote
speaker for Voorhees’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. program. This
event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. in
Massachusetts Hall Auditorium.
