Dameone Ferguson is a rising senior Mass
Communications major from Easley, SC. He was born December
25, 1986 to the late Yolanda Ferguson in Hartford,
Connecticut, but was raised by his grandmother, Bernice
Ferguson. The eldest of three children, he is proud to be
the first from his family to graduate from high school with
honors and to attend an institution of higher learning on
academic scholarship. He takes pride in becoming the
guiding light for his two younger siblings to emulate.
Since his matriculation at Voorhees
College he has served in many leadership roles. His
involvement includes President- Elect of the SGA 2007- 2008;
Business Manager of the SGA 2006- 2007; Vice President of
the SGA 2005- 2006; Intake Coordinator and Public Relations
Officer for the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Incorporated; Editor in Chief of the VISTA;
President of the Pre- Alumni Council; a member of the
Honor’s College, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society; Concert and
Gospel Choirs, Student Support Services; and a NNSA
(National Nuclear Security Administration) help desk agent.
He believes his involvement helps him stay focused and
connected to himself, his peers, and professionals. He is
not only involved on the collegiate level but also in the
community serving as a high school tutor, mentor, and peer
educator for the awareness of HIV and AIDS.
His philosophy of life is “Tell me, I
forget! Show me, I remember! Involve me, I’ll understand!”
This is how he lives his life and hopes to inspire others to
become a positive change in the midst of becoming involved.
Through his Presidency he plans to help his peers become the
change this environment need in order to become local
heroes, viable resources, all the while creating
opportunities, and more importantly becoming involved.
Improving communication with administrators, increasing
pride, and increasing a holistic view of the campus and of
one’s self are some goals he wants to implement through his
tenure as Student Government President.
Through such initiatives as EACH ONE,
REACH ONE, TEACH ONE, (a sociably and academically
productive initiative for the students by the students); the
TIGER PRIDE EXPERIENCE, (the increase of pride in activities
on campus, in the community, and within one’s self); and THE
VOICE, (listening to concerns and grievances and addressing
them to proper officials in a professional manner searching
for results) they will be the foundation for others to use
and build upon in near future, while becoming the change
needed for a Positive, Productive, and Sociable school term.
