SPCH 130. Fundamentals of Speech (3)
A general education requirement. A course designed to
assure competence in oral communication skills. It
introduces theory and practice of basic speech communication
applicable to interpersonal communication and extemporaneous
public speaking. A minimum grade of "C" is required to exit
the course. Pre-requisite: ENG 131 and 132 or permission of
the instructor
SPCH 131. Public Speaking (3)
This course furthers the skills acquired in Speech 131.
The course emphasizes how to research and organize materials
suitable for informative and persuasive speeches, how to
deliver speeches, how to analyze audiences, and how to
critique speeches. Prerequisite: SPCH 130.
SPCH 232. Oral Interpretation of Literature (3)
An English Major requirement. Emphasis on selecting,
analyzing and interpreting materials from fiction, drama,
and poetry. Stresses voice as the major instrument of
interpretation. Students make a final oral presentation.
Prerequisite: Theatre 230.
SPCH 330. Argumentation and Debate (3)
An English major requirement. Emphasizes the principles,
structures and techniques of debate. Topics for debate
practices include national issues.
