OBJECTIVES
Voorhees College is a member of the
National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) and the Southern Regional
Honors Council (SRHC).
The Voorhees Honors College is designed to
attract, recognize, reward, and advance academic excellence by providing
additional or expanded opportunities for the College’s ablest and most
motivated students. The program is comprised of courses for honors
credit, and non-credit, on- and off-campus activities such as public
lectures, symposia/forums, concerts, workshops, film-shows, theatricals,
debates, and conferences.
ELIGIBILITY
Voorhees College selects potential Honors
Program students on the basis of students’ outstanding scholastic
abilities, as suggested by their SAT or ACT scores, outstanding
leadership qualities, grade point averages, and letters of
recommendation.
Students entering or enrolled in any
undergraduate program at Voorhees College may apply for admission to the
Honors Program. The Honors Program usually invites eligible students to
apply, but students may apply on their own initiative. Students may
apply for admission during their freshman or sophomore year but no later
than the first semester of their junior year. All applicants must
complete an application form. After reviewing applicants’ credentials,
the Honors Council invites eligible students for an interview, which is
required as a part of the application process. Within ten (10) days
following the interview, the Honors Council informs applicants in
writing whether they were approved or not approved for admission.
Students
who are enrolled as Presidential or Dean’s Scholars are required to
become members of the Honors Program. An entering freshman who has not been identified
as a Presidential or Dean’s Scholar must have a combined verbal and mathematical Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) score of at least 1000, or 28 on the American Council of Testing
(ACT); a score of at least 12.0 on the English, 12.0 on the mathematics,
and 12.0 on the reading tests of the California Achievement Test (CAT);
two letters of recommendation; and an essay.
All other currently enrolled students who
have completed at least 15 credit hours and have a cumulative grade
point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) may also apply for
admission into the program. The Voorhees College Honors Program accepts
honors credits from honors programs at colleges or universities approved
by the National Collegiate Honors Council.

Coordinator of the Honors Program.
