April 19, 2017

On April 18, Voorhees College had an installation ceremony for the 2017 Student Government Association officers during the All-College worship service in the St. Philip’s Chapel.

Velteeka Wright, a rising senior mass communications major from Manning, S.C., will serve as president.

Talyia Durant, a rising senior accounting major from Hartsville, S.C., will serve as vice president.

Janessa Wingo, a rising junior accounting major from Landrum, S.C., will serve as business manager.

Ki’Yonna Glover, a rising senior mass Communications major from Aiken, S.C., will serve as secretary.

Imani Pinckney, a rising junior Sociology major from Charleston, S.C., will serve as assistant secretary.

Bradley Isaac, a rising senior business administration major from Charlotte, N.C., will serve as Mr. Voorhees.

Terrianna McCullough, a rising senior mass communications major from Lamar, S.C., will serve as Miss Voorhees.

President W. Franklin Evans charged the new officers to possess certain leadership qualities. He told them that being a leader means one must not only look like a leader but dress like one.

“These positions require each of you to remember you are working for your fellow classmates and it is not about you,” Evans said. “I believe that each of you are capable of making a difference here on this campus. Humility will be key in order for the student body to be comfortable speaking up and informing you on what they need.”
