Voorhees College Alumni AKAs give Homecoming donation

November 13, 2019

The Voorhees College Eta Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. alumni recently donated $1,108 to the institution during Homecoming weekend.

The Eta Nu alumni aligned this project with the sorority’s program initiative: Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) for life: A call to action. This project, coordinated by alumnae Leslie Cue and Tracy Golden, Eta Nu chapter graduate advisor.

The sorority’s program target continues its focus on education with an emphasis on HBCUs. Chapters are promoting and marketing HBCUs while encouraging students to attend these institutions as a sustainability measure.

Recognizing that HBCU funding is one of the primary obstacles that threaten the long-term growth and survival of HBCUs, members are encouraged to support HBCUs financially. The organization’s goal is to stamp the Alpha Kappa Alpha brand of financial support on each HBCU campus to help retain students so that they can earn a college degree.

President W. Franklin Evans said it was a pleasant surprise to receive the donation. “Voorhees receives a lot of support from the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. We are continually grateful for all of the efforts made to Voorhees College,” Evans said.

The Eta Nu alumni have set a goal to raise $5000 by the end of Voorhees’ fiscal year which is June 30, 2020.
