Voorhees College faculty receives Promise Zone Library Fellowship

December 13, 2018

Voorhees College Director of Library Services Rev. Dr. Herman “Skip” Mason was recently selected as the Rural Promise Zone Librarian Fellow.

The fellowship offers professional development to librarians who want to make a positive impact in their community and engages librarians in the design of a framework to increase collaborative actions in the pursuit of shared community goals.

Mason said the institution looks forward to expanding the avenues of information literacy, preservation, and access to the students, faculty and community.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship, the Voorhees College Wright-Potts Library will have the opportunity to partner on a grant proposal to request implementation funds for a community project after the completion of the fellowship.

Mason said he is honored to have been selected to represent Voorhees as a Librarian Fellow. “I have the opportunity to share with my fellow librarians across the country this rich history, legacy, and collections of this gem of a school in the Low Country of South Carolina,” Mason said. “It is my hope that this partnership and program will create a tremendous opportunity for the college and community.”
