Voorhees College receives cases of water from local AKAs

October 22, 2019

The Voorhees College Department of Residential Life Services was recently given 75 cases of water for students by the Beta Zeta Omega, Nu Tau Omega, and Eta Nu chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

The Beta Zeta Omega chapter recently hosted its annual Cluster VI meeting at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. In addition to the pillow case dresses/shirts for the organization’s Haiti Service Project, bottled water was collected for the City of Denmark. Along with Nu Tau Omega and Eta Nu chapters in support of the two Historically Black Colleges and Universities are located in Denmark, Voorhees College and Denmark Technical College.

Lisa B. Stokes, Nu Tau Omega chapter member and local Bamberg resident said the citizens of Denmark have been struggling with clean drinking water issues for more than 10 years. “This is not the first time we have donated water to Voorhees and the students definitely appreciated the gesture. They came eagerly and willingly to help transport the water,” Stokes said.

Stokes along with Douglas stokes, Lisa’s husband and Voorhees alumnus were asked to deliver the water to Denmark. On Thursday, October 17 the couple took the trailer of almost 200 cases of water on the campus and out in the community for distribution.
