March 09, 2021

After recently discovering the men’s basketball team would play the Bethel College Threshers the No. 2 seed in the bracket, in the first round of the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) tournament which will be held in Wichita, Kan. the team prepared to head to the championship.

College administration congratulated the team and provided well wishes before they traveled to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport to fly out to Kansas. Interim President Dr. Ronnie Hopkins said to the team that he urges the amazing team members to stay focused, keep their eyes on the prize, and simply do their very best.

He said, “Undoubtedly, the entire Voorhees family sends our love and prayers for safe travels and well wishes for a championship title.”

Athletics director Charlene Johnson said this is an exciting time for the Department of Athletics and the men’s basketball team. “The fact we made it once again to the national tournament speaks to our endurance and determination. All of our prayers will be with the team as they compete,” Johnson said.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Cabral Huff shed light on the preparation for the tournament as they go to Kansas to compete in the opening round. “This is the ninth time in the school’s history of us getting to this point and this time we want to do something special. That comes down to the preparation of everyone involved,” Huff said.

He added, “We are humble enough to prepare through film and game study, yet confident enough that our group will leave it on the floor and perform. I am very excited about this moment in history for the Voorhees Men’s Basketball program considering the amount of adversity this season has had.”
