Voorhees College students visit USC for career development workshops

November 15, 2018

As a part of the Career Pathways Initiative (CPI), Voorhees College sport management and mass communication majors, who have aspirations of working in the sport management industry, recently participated in career development workshops sponsored by the University of South Carolina (USC) College of Hospitality, Retail, & Sport Management.

The workshop topics included: jobs in sport management, sport communication, personal development, resume preparation, networking, and graduate school opportunities in sport management.

Following the workshops, students participated in a seminar with the Fred Whitfield, CEO, president and minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, and Dr. Danny Morrison, former president of the Carolina Panthers and current faculty member at USC.

Dr. Marcus Amos, assistant professor of sports management and department coordinator, said this was a great opportunity for our students to learn some of the requirements for working in a sporting arena environment. “The students were able to network with people who have been working in the industry for years. The workshops provided insight into the preparation and operation of the industry from various perspectives,” Amos said.
