Voorhees senior mass communications major wins oratorical contest

Camron McClain is the 2016 Alpha Phi Alpha South Carolina District Oratorical Contest winner. McClain competed on behalf of the Voorhees College Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity, Inc. on Jan. 21 at the Civic Center in Florence, S.C. He competed against five other colleges, which were Claflin University, Allen University, Winthrop University, South Carolina State University, and Morris College.

“I feel like the past district champions from Eta Iota have inspired me to push harder and continue raising the bar. It is important to realize that even though Voorhees is a smaller institution, we can still compete against the bigger schools and come out on top,” McClain said.

In keeping with the Voorhees tradition of winning, Voorhees has had three previous winners of the Oratorical Contest. Now, McClain will compete at the upcoming March 2017 regional convention held in Raleigh, N.C. for the title of Southern Region Oratorical Champion.
