Voorhees college announces the schedule of Homecoming 2018 activities with this year’s theme, “Begin. Believe. Become.”

Homecoming events begins with the fourth annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 8. The golf tournament will be held at Hillcrest Golf Course in Orangeburg, S.C. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the shotgun starts at 9 a.m.

The $60 individual entry fee includes green fees, cart, lunch and a raffle. Group registration is $240 with a maximum of four players.

Prizes will be given to first, second, and third place winners. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships and student programs. For more information on the golf tournament, contact Ulysses Williams at (803) 780-1062 or via e-mail at uwilliams@voorhees.edu.

The spotlight on Success: Alumni Homecoming Showcase will take place on Thursday, Nov. 8 beginning at 7 a.m. until noon. This showcase is an assembly where alumni from various careers come to speak with students in the perspective areas.

On Friday, Nov. 9, the National Alumni Association meeting will be held on campus at 9 a.m. in Massachusetts Hall. Following the meeting, lunch will be provided for alumni in the Cherry Blossom Room of the cafeteria at a cost of $10 per person.

Later that evening, the Hall of Fame Banquet will be held in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center at 6 p.m. Tickets for this event are $75 per person or $600 per table. During this event, individuals will be acknowledged for their achievements in various fields and dedication to Voorhees College. This year’s emcee will be Sheryl Underwood, comedian and actress. In addition, recording artist Glenn Jones.

The Wine and Cheese Lounge will be held following the banquet in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium featuring comedian Mike Washington with special guest Sheryl Underwood. This event will begin at 9:30 p.m. with a general admission fee of $20.

The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 beginning at 10 a.m. on Maple Street in downtown Denmark. The Voorhees Lady Tigers will take on the Middle Georgia State University Lady Knights at 1p.m. The Voorhees Tigers will take on the St. Thomas University Bobcats at 3 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The games are free for Voorhees students with a valid ID and $15 for general admission. 

The Homecoming Step Show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The cost for this event is $15 per person. Immediately following the step show, there will be a fireworks display in Academic Circle.

To culminate the homecoming festivities, on Sunday, Nov. 11, there will be a worship service, featuring alumnus Rev. T.A. Belton. This event will be held in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium at 9 a.m.
