DeKalb County Sheriff Melody M. Maddox Serves as Women’s History Month Speaker

Denmark, S.C. – Voorhees University opened the annual Women’s History Month celebration with DeKalb County Sherriff Melody M. Maddox, serving as guest speaker on March 2, in Massachusetts Hall. The Atlanta native became the second woman to hold the title of Sheriff in the state of Georgia, making her the county’s 5oth sheriff in 2019.

“Little did I know, God was preparing me for what was to come. I didn’t walk in fear. I walked in faith. Be prepared for ‘what if’ because staying alert keeps you alert.”, she encouraged the Voorhees University family. Maddox centered her message around women empowerment, challenging women to walk boldly in their endeavors and be fierce. Mentioning that God has given her much strength and faith, she expressed that her commitment to being sheriff is to the Dekalb County community where she fights to serve and protect.

Maddox is also the CEO of Woman 2 Woman Personal Awareness and Safety Training (P.A.S.T) where she teaches self-defense training. She is a member of DeKalb County NAACP, National Council of Negro Women, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and a host of other phenomenal organizations. “Success is not measured by your role or your title; it’s measured by the obstacle it took for you to get there. Success doesn’t make you happy. Happiness makes you successful. When you’re happy with what you’re doing, you’re going to go above and beyond your given task.”, she closed.
