Sellers receives honorary doctorate degree from Saint Augustine’s University

Sellers was chosen to receive a doctorate of humane letters from the university because of his distinguished background as an educator, civil rights leader, advocate for justice and humanitarian.
Sellers earned a bachelor’s degree from Shaw University, a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and a doctorate degree in education from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
Sellers, an author of six publications, is a member of the Prestigious Kosmos Club, S.C. State Board of Education, S.C. African American Heritage Committee, the Organization of American Historians, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Southern Historical Association.
Sellers has also received honorary doctorate degrees from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2009 and Shaw University in 2013.
Sellers is Voorhees’ eighth president and will retire at the end of this fiscal year, which is June 30. He has three children; Nosizwe A. Sellers, M.D., Rev. Cleveland L. Sellers, III and Attorney Bakari Sellers, who is also a CNN contributor.
