Voorhees hires new alumni affairs director

Voorhees College Institutional Advancement and Development (IAD) selects Ulysses Williams as the new director of alumni affairs.
Williams, who was a part of IAD as the general manager of the Voorhees College WVCD 790 AM radio station, transitioned into alumni affairs at the end of the 2016-2017 fiscal year. In his new positon, he will be responsible for spearheading alumni support, increasing alumni giving, establishing new alumni chapters, and developing annual fund campaigns.
“I’m excited about the challenge ahead. In communicating with other alumni, the message was constant, something is missing. As the new director of alumni affairs, I hope to identify more strategies and techniques that will empower and strengthen our alumni database,” Williams said.
As the director of alumni affairs, Williams said some of his goals include revamping the alumni office to create a keened focus on alumni needs, concerns, and ideas, creating a young alumni council to get more young alumni active, and closing the bridge between young and older alumni.
Williams is a Columbia, S.C. native and a member of the National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts, Alpha Psi Omega Theatrical Society, Inc., and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Voorhees College and a master’s degree in liberal studies from Grambling State University.
He has been working at Voorhees for more than ten years serving in the capacity of director and general manager of WVCD, advisor of the WVCD Radio Association, advisor of the E.E. Wright Players and Alpha Psi Omega Theatrical Society, assistant mass communication professor, and a member of various institutional committees.
