Voorhees holds annual Christmas concert
December 06, 2019
Voorhees College recently held its annual Gospel choir concert in celebration of Christmas.
The Voorhees College Gospel Choir performed a diverse selection of Christmas- themed arrangements such as Donald Lawrence’s “Carol of The Bell,” “I Can Hear the Angels,” and “Sweet Little Jesus Boy.” Also, Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir’s rendition of “Silent Night,” and Ricky Dillard’s “He Reigns,” to name a few.
Rachel Jones, choir director, said she wanted the choir to perform contemporary gospel songs with an old- school traditional flare.
“The students work hard to prepare every year for the Christmas Concert. It brings me so much joy to have them share with the College and community in worship, praise, and honoring God,” Jones said.
At the conclusion of the concert, Jones was given thanks and praises for her efforts directing the program each year. President W. Franklin Evans said he was in awe the entire performance.
“Every year we lose singers due to graduation. I always anticipate who will come in and be able to fill their spots. However, this year’s new freshman and transfer students who joined the choir pleasantly surprised me. This performance has assured me the choir’s legacy will live on,” Evans said.
Senior choir member Joi Felder said the Christmas concert is one of her favorite activities to participate in on the choir. “This is bittersweet as this was my last Christmas performance, but our sound of music blew the audience away,” Felder said.
