Voorhees hosts its annual Opening School Institute

October 07, 2015

On Aug. 7 at 8 a.m. in the St James Building on campus, all Voorhees College faculty and staff will gather to welcome new members, receive campus and administrative updates and get motivated for the upcoming school year.

The highlight of the Institute is featured guest speaker Mike Adams, who is the assistant vice president of service operations for Colonial Life in Columbia, S.C. Colonial Life is a leading voluntary benefits provider for over three million working Americans and 80,000 employers. Adams is responsible to employers, policyholders, agents and brokers by supporting processes related to the servicing of customer and producer needs while optimizing billing administration.

“We are excited about the upcoming year as we continue to strive for excellence,” said Samuel Blackwell, vice president for planning and information management. “It takes a dedicated and motivational faculty and staff member to get the students prepared for their educational journey ahead.”

President Cleveland L. Sellers Jr., will give the state of the college address to identify the priorities and vision for the 2015-2016 academic year.  Dr. Sellers is serving his seventh year at the helm of this historic institution. The theme for this year is “Motivating and Engaging Employees to Achieve Results.”

Following the institute, a luncheon will be held to formally welcome new and returning employees back to the campus. The remainder of the afternoon will be dedicated to divisional meetings as the institution prepares for the arrival of new students on Sunday, Aug. 9.
