Voorhees Men’s Basketball Team qualifies for A.I.I. Conference Tournament
February 23, 2018
The Voorhees College Men’s Basketball Team earned a first-round bye as one of the top two seeds for the 2018 Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, taking place Feb. 23-25 at Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Ill.
Athletics Director Charlene Johnson said this accomplishment is one of things which continues to take our institution to greater heights.
“Our student athletes have been working hard on the court and in the classroom. Eight players have a 3.0 grade point average or higher and were recently recognized as members of the athletics director’s honor roll. It is important to win in both scenarios as we continue to mold our students to be prepared for this competitive society,” Johnson said.
The team’s current record is 17-9. They are 3-1 in conference, which allowed them to be one of the two seeds in the upcoming conference tournament.
Derrick Mitchell, head men’s basketball coach, said his team is extremely humbled and excited about the opportunity that has been earned because of the regular season.
“This season has been a true testament to the hard work the players have put in all season. They have worked extremely hard and now they have a chance to reap the benefits of that hard work,” Mitchell said.
