April 18, 2019
Voorhees College recognized Dr. Diane Hulett as faculty of the year and Cheryl Knight as staff of the year during the recent 122nd Founder’s Day Convocation.
Hulett was recently selected as the Voorhees College faculty/staff spotlight for the month of February and now faculty of the year after recently assisting the institution with receiving a $10,000 recycling grant from the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).
She serves as the primary investigator (PI) for the recycling grant. Her responsibilities are to file reports, conduct research, record results, monitor finances, follow guidelines, and meet legal obligations of the project.
In addition, she recently received the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) Excellence in Teaching Award for her outstanding efforts and commitment to her students. Hulett will also be given $3,000 toward professional development. She previously won this award in 2008 at Morris College.
Hulett has been at the institution for five years working in the Department of Humanities Education and Social Sciences. She is also the assistant professor of English and mass communication.
She said she is honored to have been nominated and selected. “I aspire to live up to the standard of excellence set by my predecessors. I am always grateful for the opportunity to serve in this capacity at Voorhees College,” Hulett said.
Knight was recently selected as the Voorhees College faculty/staff spotlight for the month of April for her continuous dedication and service to the institution in fiscal affairs. Next year, she will receive the Twenty Year Service award for time served.
She serves primarily as the accounts payable coordinator. In addition, she recently accepted an additional role as administrative support to the vice president for the Division of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs and volunteered to be the on campus advisor for the Eta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Knight has been at the institution for 20 years as of April 12, working in the Division of Fiscal and Administrative Affairs. She is also the facilitator for all event concessions.
Knight said she has been at the institution for many years and would not have it any other way. “I work in a great department with some dedicated staff. We are like family, and I appreciate the recognition and look forward to continuing to grow with the institution,” Knight said.
President W. Franklin Evans said he takes pride in having qualified, dedicated, and superior faculty and staff members. “Our students deserve only the best from faculty and staff. Dr. Hulett and Ms. Knight carry the torch well and have been outstanding when it comes to serving our students. I congratulate them both and appreciate their efforts and service,” Evans said.
