Voorhees prepares for Fall 2019 Welcome R.O.A.R. Week
July 30, 2019
Voorhees College administration eagerly awaits the arrival of new, transfer, and current students for the 2019-2020 academic year and will officially be welcoming the students during Responsibility, Opportunity, Aspiration, and Reflection (R.O.A.R.) week Aug. 3-11.
The institution will kick off R.O.A.R. Week with new students’ arrival and check in on Saturday, Aug. 3 in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center (Dawson Center) inside the gym.
On Sunday, Aug. 4, there will be a mandatory chapel service from 10 -11 a.m. in the St. Philip’s Chapel on campus for new and transfer students. A candlelight matriculation ceremony, where new and transfer students will take an oath to support the Voorhees mission while serving as model students academically, spiritually, and socially, will be held in the chapel from 4 -5:30 p.m. These events are free and open to the public.
All residence halls will open for returning students on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. as registration continues for all students in the Dawson Center.
Voorhees will hold its annual Legacy dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 7 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dawson Center. The legacy dinner is an opportunity for administration, faculty, staff, and mentors to celebrate with the Class of 2023 the beginning of their college journey.
Classes officially begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.
President W. Franklin Evans said this is his favorite time of year when the institution prepares to kick off a new academic year. “We welcome current students back and the Class of 2023 to campus. It is our expectation that we will have a successful and rewarding new year. Voorhees is going in a new direction and it is now time for the new students to begin so they can believe and become Voorhees College,” Evans said.
