Voorhees prepares for its 2017 Homecoming

Voorhees College announces the schedule of Homecoming 2017 activities with this year’s theme, “Re-Imagining Voorhees: A Different School of Thought.”

Homecoming events kickoff with the third annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 9. The golf tournament will be held at Hillcrest Golf Course in Orangeburg, S.C. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the shotgun starts at 9 a.m.

The $60 individual entry fee includes green fees, cart, lunch and a raffle. Group registration is $240 with a maximum of four players.

On Friday, Nov. 10, the National Alumni Association meeting will be held on campus at 9 a.m. in Massachusetts Hall. Following the meeting, lunch will be provided for alumni in the Cherry Blossom Room of the cafeteria at a cost of $10 per person.

Later that evening, the Hall of Fame Banquet will be held in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center at 6 p.m. Tickets for this event are $75 per person or $600 per table. During this event, individuals will be recognized for their achievements in various fields and dedication to Voorhees College.

The VC Block Party will be held following the banquet on the black top. The party will begin at 9:30 p.m. with free admission. Beginning at 9 p.m., there will be a Wine and Cheese Lounge featuring alumni performing spoken word at Massachusetts Hall. Tickets for this event are $15 for general admission.

The Homecoming Parade will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11 beginning at 10 a.m. on Maple Street in downtown Denmark. The Voorhees Lady Tigers will take on the Bob Jones University Lady Bruins at 1p.m. The Voorhees Tigers will take on the Point University Skyhawks at 3 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The cost for this event is $15 per person and free admission for Voorhees students with a valid ID. 

The Homecoming Step Show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center. The cost for this event is $15 per person. Immediately following the step show, there will be a fireworks display in Academic Circle.

To end the homecoming festivities, on Sunday, Nov. 12, there will be an VC Choir Reunion Concert featuring performances by alumni choir members, the current VC choir, and a mini sermon by President W. Franklin Evans. This event will be held in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium at 9 a.m. Tickets for this event are $20 for general admission.
