Voorhees raises $43,133.28 during homecoming week

Voorhees College recently celebrated its 122nd Homecoming, Voorhees College is pleased to announce raising $43,133.28 during Homecoming week.
It was clear that this year’s theme, “There’s no place like Voorhees,” rang true as many alumni gathered to participate in the weekend Homecoming festivities.
There were check presentations during halftime of the men and women’s basketball games, for funds raised in the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Presentations included the 2018 Hall of Fame Class, the Golden Class of 1969, Aladdin Food Services, Career Pathways Initiative, The CSRA Alumni Chapter, and the Voorhees College National Alumni Association (VCNAA). Also, recognition of alumni Senator Ronnie Sabb, Wilhelmenia Jefferson-Priester, and Jerome Geathers for their financial contributions:
Also, the Tigers Basketball Teams celebrated a victory over the Piedmont International Bruins 92-81.
Additionally, in athletics, the men’s and women’s 1994-1995 Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) basketball champions were recognized with awards during the halftime of the women’s game. Also,
the 2018-2019 Tigers basketball team finished last season as the 2019 Association of Independent Institutions (AII) conference champions and received their championship rings before the beginning of the Homecoming men’s game.
Another highlight that took place during the weekend was the unveiling of the 2019 class of the National Alumni Association 10 Under 40 program. The Voorhees College 10 under 40 Young Alumni Recognition Program recognizes young alumni that are trailblazers in various fields. The 2018 class members were: Captain Dominique Abner, Quillie Hunt, Jr., Trayvone Johnson, Tiffany Jordan, Cory J. Mikel, Alisha Nicole Sparks, India Williams, and Delacroix Johnson (posthumously).
On Sunday, to culminate the Homecoming festivities, a Worship and Homecoming Closing event held in Massachusetts’s Hall featured Voorhees alumnus Reverend Terry Law, a 1982 graduate. This event raises funds to support the Voorhees College Choir. This year the event raised $2,393, which is the highest record to date.
President W. Franklin Evans said Homecoming 2019 was successful. “The love and support received from Homecoming made me feel like an alumnus of Voorhees College. There is no place like Voorhees, and I would like to thank all of the alumni, family, and friends who joined us this weekend. I cannot wait to see what is in store next year,” Evans said. “Remember not only to visit Voorhees for Homecoming, but we want to see you all year round.”
