Voorhees serves as a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

Voorhees College recently hosted a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Leonard E. Dawson Center on campus, where the first dose of the Moderna vaccine was administered to 263 individuals.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control are the facilitators of the clinic, opening up the opportunity to get vaccinated to the institution’s faculty, staff, students, and surrounding community members upon registration in efforts to stop the spread of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), which has created a nationwide pandemic.

Nurse Suzanne Williams, director of health services, said it is a wonderful opportunity to have Voorhees College as a vaccination host site, especially being able to have the vaccine available in areas where disparity and low access is prevalent,” Williams said. “I am so excited that our partnership with SC DHEC allows us to continue strengthening our ties and supporting our community by being able to provide this public health service to everyone.”

Dr. Ronnie Hopkins, interim president, said he encourages all to take the vaccine as it can help save lives. “COVID-19 is a serious situation with more than half a million Americans who have lost their lives and countless others across the globe. The virus has especially affected African-American communities and other communities of color,” Hopkins said. “We are thankful to DHEC for facilitating the vaccination clinics at our very own institution in an effort to save lives.”

The second clinic will administer the second dose to those individuals on Wednesday, April 21 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
