Voorhees set to host 2018 annual community health and wellness fair

Voorhees College Center of Excellence in Rural and Minority Health will have its annual community health and wellness fair on Wednesday, April 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Leonard E. Dawson Center.
The goal of the health and wellness event is to improve the quality of life for all citizens in Bamberg, Barnwell, Allendale, and surrounding communities. Exhibitors from around the low country areas of the SC Promise Zone will participate and share their expertise in various aspects of health and human services, healthy living, lifestyle improvements, disease prevention, financial wellness, housing and community development as well as career services.
Vendors and exhibitors who cover different areas of health, wellness, healthy living, and lifestyle improvements will be at this event. There will be chiropractic care, HIV Testing, vision care, dental services, diabetes education, food nutrition, health insurance and much more provided at this event.
Resources and referrals will be offered for cholesterol testing, blood pressure screenings, and breast cancer screenings. The health fair’s main focus is to inform and educate all students and community members from the surrounding areas.
Menia Lee, chairperson and director of sponsored research and grant services, said the health fair will be an exciting community event for people to come out and receive free services. Healthy people result in a healthy community. Our aim is to make sure any one regardless of their financial status can be educated and receive health screenings,” Lee said.
