Voorhees signs memorandum with the SC Technical College System

April 20, 2018

Voorhees College and the SC Technical College System signed a memorandum of understanding designed to enhance the seamless transfer of associate degree graduates from the 16 technical colleges in South Carolina to the institution.

The agreement works to increase and encourage access to baccalaureate education for two-year college students, including minority and under-represented populations. The memorandum of understanding formally recognizes the public-private collaboration between the state’s technical college system and Voorhees College.

The 2+2 program will aid students in making a more seamless transfer between institutions and will admit associate degree holders from South Carolina’s technical colleges to Voorhees with junior classification.  The ultimate goal is to reduce lost time to graduation and relieve some of the added financial burden now associated with transferring.

President W. Franklin Evans said. “We are excited to collaborate with the SC Technical College System on this agreement and we welcome these students with open arms to continue their educational goals at Voorhees. The collaboration works to build an affordable pathway for students and a clear, direct path to degree attainment and, ultimately, the workforce,” Evans said.

Students can start at one of the 16 technical colleges across the state, earning the associate’s degree, then complete the bachelor’s degree at Voorhees in one of our 16 bachelor degree programs, including today’s in-demand fields within business/entrepreneurship, computer science/cyber security, emergency management/homeland security, and public health.

SC Technical College System President Dr. Tim Hardee, said the memorandum is a wonderful opportunity for the students. “Access and affordability are key tenets of the SC Technical College System.  This collaborative agreement strengthens those values by extending access for our students to a private, baccalaureate education ranked as one of the most affordable colleges in the United States by the Student Loan Report,” Hardee said.

Students who have completed an associate of arts or science degree program at a South Carolina technical college will enter Voorhees College with junior standing. Upon their application to Voorhees College, SC technical college graduates will be treated on an equal basis with regard to award and distribution of financial aid and other scholarships, campus housing, parking, selection of courses and other student services.
