Sports management major Bianca Oneal, has been selected to intern at the University of New Mexico in the Department of African-American Student Services Summer Bridge Program which runs from May 29-July 14.
The summer bridge program consists of two components, the summer youth sports program and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs. Oneal will serve as a student counselor.
“This internship will allow me to further my education outside of Voorhees and gain additional experiences to broaden my educational and professional development,” Oneal said. “Mr. Amos helped make this internship possible and my family and friends have been a great support system for me while in the sports management program.”
Marcus Amos, assistant professor of sports management, said he is excited for Oneal’s opportunity at the University of New Mexico. “The Department of Sports Management is proud to have Oneal represent Voorhees College during her internship. She will enhance her career development and we hope to create future partnerships with the university for our students,” Amos said.
Amos was asked by the University of New Mexico for ideas on increasing the number of summer bridge program areas of development through the use of students. Amos suggested that the university use Voorhees as a pilot institution to have students from Voorhees participate in their programs. Oneal was selected based off of her academic standing and achievements.
Oneal is a rising senior and native of Brooklyn, N.Y. She is a member of the Lady Tigers Women’s Basketball Team and the Delta Iota Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
