October 30, 2019
The Voorhees College Men's Basketball team ranked inside the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Men's Basketball Top 25 poll for the first time in program history since 2002 as the Tigers begin the season ranked No. 20.
The ranking, which came with 109 total points, is the highest ever for the Tigers since 2002. The Tigers, who are coming off a 24-6 season made a second trip back to the NAIA National Tournament, where they ended their season last year. Voorhees was 25th in the final poll last season.
Head Men’s Basketball Coach said with a strong returning core and some valuable additions this fall will take the team’s expectations to a new level. “I always have a strong team. We have been working hard since the summer and we want to continue breaking records,” Mitchell said.
Senior captain Alex Brooks, point guard, and Mr. Voorhees College, said the team finished strong, but they plan on finishing even stronger this year. “It is a blessing the team ranked in the Top 25. We still have our work cut out for us, but we are not afraid of a challenge,” Brooks said.
The Tigers are scheduled to play the Piedmont International University Bruins during Voorhees Homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.
