Voorhees will celebrate the inauguration of the ninth president

April 07, 2017

The inaugural ceremony and investiture convocation to formally install Dr. W. Franklin Evans, who took office in August 2016, as the ninth president of Voorhees College, will take place on Friday, April 7 at 10 a.m. in the Leonard E. Dawson Health and Human Resources Center.

The ceremony will be officiated by Dr. Robert Satcher, Jr., chairman of the Board of Trustees, and will include the presentation of the presidential robe, medallion, citation, and seal.

“I am honored to take on the prestigious title as president of a historical foundation such as Voorhees College. I will uphold the mission established by the founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wright, as I work to make Voorhees the premiere institution of excellence,” Evans said.

Prior to being named the president of Voorhees College, Evans served as the interim president of South Carolina State University (SCSU). He also served as the provost and chief academic officer at SCSU. Evans is well versed in many areas including leadership and supervision in all academic programs and curriculum development, faculty recruitment, enrollment management, strategic planning, and the accreditation process.

At 7 p.m., an inaugural gala will take place also at the Dawson Center. This black-tie affair will feature the Voorhees College Concert Choir and the Steve G and The Juniors Band.  Tickets for the gala are $100 per person.
